After an excruciating seven game losing streak, The University of Maine Men’s Ice Hockey team finally got back in the win column after collecting a 4-3 victory against UMass Lowell at the Tsongas Center. Last Saturday night’s victory was a back and forth affair but in the end, freshman Kyle Williams provided the Black Bears with the decisive fourth goal to secure the W. It was the Bowdoinham native’s first career NCAA goal.
Maine’s attention now turns to the 3-4-0 University of Massachusetts Minutemen as the two schools set to square off Friday night at Alfond Arena. The last time UMass traveled up to the Alfond, Maine demoralized the Minutemen in the first two periods of the weekend, tallying six unanswered goals. The Black Bears won that game 7-3 but played a sloppy third period which carried over into night two when UMass was able to upend the Maine 4-1.

It’s senior day for the 3-6 University of Maine Black Bear football team, marking their final home game of the 2012 season. Sitting at 2-4 in the CAA, Maine’s playoff hopes are completely dashed but awaiting them are the 1-9 Georgia State Panthers, a team coming off a 53-27 blow out at the hands of Old Dominion just one week ago.
A bit about the Panthers
It hasn’t been pretty for the Panthers this season and it probably isn’t going to get better any time soon. Georgia State is playing in their first and only season in the CAA to get ready to make the jump to the Sun Belt Conference and FBS football. Because Georgia State is bolting, they are ineligible for CAA title and FCS postseason play. Georgia State arguably wanted one season in the CAA to get ready for life with the big boys but the task has been much harder than…

Bryan Roche and Cody Beckett wrap up Mens Hockey’s disappointing weekend, falling to Boston College and the University of New Hampshire.
The University of Maine Men’s Ice Hockey team is back in action tonight at Alfond Arena against the defending national champion Boston College Eagles. BC is off to another hot start, coming into tonight’s contest on a four game winning streak.
Early on, we have seen this Eagles team underestimate weaker opponents. BC dropped their season opener to upstart to Northeastern, 3-1 and nearly lost to UMass after spotting the Minutemen a 3-0 lead only to come back and secure a 5-4 victory in Overtime. Even last Sunday against Lowell, the Eagles played a sloppy third period after amassing a large lead.
The key for Maine is to play a physical game and to really grind the Eagles down. Make BC take penalties (13 most in the nation) and try to capitalize on the power play, which hasn’t been easy for Maine this season. Focus on defense, let BC make…
